Irene M. Marthaler, age 85 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully Friday, December 19, 2008 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 22 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Andrew Marthaler and Rev. James Statz concelebrating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home followed by Christian Mothers at 7 p.m.

Irene Marthaler was born May 15, 1923 in Raymond Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to John and Mary (Krebsbach) Kinsella. On May 17, 1948 she was united in marriage to Lawrence B. Marthaler at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. The couple farmed near West Union and Holdingford before moving to a farm in Getty Township, Stearns County in 1959. They moved to Sauk Centre in 1992. She had been employed by Fingerhut, Pettit Children's Home, Airway Supper Club, Ding Dong Café, and SLS Home.Irene was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Sinclair Lewis Aerie Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, playing video games, watching stock car racing, and bird watching.

Survivors include nine children, Mary (Don) Beckering of Minnetonka, Michael (Patty) Marthaler of Effie, Mark (Dorothy) Marthaler of Sauk Centre, Rose (Harvey) Schlichting of Little Falls, Peter (Laurie) Marthaler and Lorenz "Dusty" Marthaler, all of Sauk Centre, Therese (Steven) Roberts of Bloomington, Bill (Mona) Marthaler of New Munich, Dan (RaeAnn) Marthaler of St. James; daughter-in-law, Sondra Marthaler of St. Cloud; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine Schmeising of Sauk Centre; brothers, Bernie Kinsella of Cheyenne, Wyoming, John Berscheit of Sauk Centre, and Paul (Verda) Berscheit of Prior Lake.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence on April 1, 2003; parents; son, Patrick; infant son, Joseph; grandson, Jason Schlichting; sister, Gertrude Wielenberg; brothers, Robert and Lloyd Kinsella.

Serving as casket bearers will be Joe, Jeremy, and Eric Marthaler, Jeff Schlichting, Adam Beckering, and David Roberts. Cross bearer will be Zach Marthaler and scripture bearer will be Jena Marthaler. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
