Ione Whiting

Ione M. Whiting, age 84 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, August 19, 2008 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 25 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Kevin Born will officiate with inurnment following in Greenwood Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Ione Whiting was born September 11, 1923 in Sunrise, Minnesota to Ralph and Florence (Anderson) Johnson. On April 4, 1948 she married Leonard Whiting in Rush City, Minnesota. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Sauk Centre. Ione was employed at the Palmer House Hotel, and then as a secretary for Judge Parker and Don Otto, before working for J. C. Penney for 28 years.Ione was a member of First Lutheran Church and Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 Auxiliary.

Survivors include one daughter, Cindy (Dennis) Friedrichs of Sauk Centre; two grandchildren, Dustin and Dacia Kluver; and brother, Harley (Maydene) Johnson of Pine City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Whiting on September 24, 1976; sister, Irene Peters; and brother, Lawrence Johnson.

Honorary bearers will be Barb Cokely, Roman Proell, Harriet Lomheim, Ron, Jack and Jamie Pettit.
