Ida B. Spaeth, age 86, of Melrose, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, October 8 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4-8 PM Sunday and from 8-10:30AM Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary will pray at 6:00 PM followed by parish prayers at 7:00 PM Sunday evening.
Ida Spaeth was born Aug. 2, 1921 in Freeport to William and Mary (Linn) Hoeschen. On May 29, 1946 she married Everhard "Abe" Spaeth at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Ida resided in Melrose at 1 West Riverside Avenue from 1959 to 2003. In 1959 Abe and Ida purchased the Thiers Bottling Company of Melrose which they operated as Spaeth Distributing until their retirement in 1985. Ida enjoyed playing cards, Bingo, social activities, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and Schanhaar-Otte VFW Post 7050 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her children, Carla Wells and her husband, Norm of Dundas, Jeffrey Spaeth and his wife, Elizabeth Rose of Minneapolis, Michelle Mehr and her husband, David of St. Joseph, Cydney Spaeth of St. Cloud; ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and sister, Florence Ziwicki of Royalton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everhard "Abe" Spaeth; daughter, June Spaeth; brothers, Lambert Hoeschen and Louis Hoeschen; and sister, Esther Hoeschen.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dave Mehr, Logan Mehr, Christopher Hennen, Lesley Spaeth, Norman Wells, Mitchell Wells and Brea Nesse. Cross bearer will be Amelia Spaeth and scripture bearer will be Katherine Spaeth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.
