Hubert J. Walter, age 94, formerly of Sauk Centre, died on Saturday, April 26, 2008 in Orlando, Florida.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 2 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. James Statz will officiate with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Hubert Walter was born on October 10, 1913 in West Union, Minnesota to Bernard and Sophia (Heimann) Walter. On June 7, 1938 he married Mary McCall in Perry, Iowa and she remained the love of his life until she died on July 21, 2004. The couple resided in Iowa until 1942 when they moved to California. They returned to Iowa in 1951, and Mr. Walter farmed and later drove truck. Upon retirement they lived in California for several years and in 1984 they moved to Sauk Centre. Since 2004 he had resided in Orlando, Florida.
Survivors include five children, Keith (Janie) Walter of Spanaway, Washington, Joyce Husick of Warsaw, Poland, Dean (Annie) Walter of Boone, Iowa, Judy Sears of Orlando, Florida, Susan Peterson of Orlando, Florida; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Vic Walter, Theresa Winter, and Frances Housen, all of Sauk Centre.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Walter; sisters, Mamie Walter, Tilly Michels and Dorothy O'Hotto; brothers, Joe and Roman Walter.
Serving as casket bearers will be Harold Walter, Ron Winter, Kevin Winter, Travis Walter, Denny Walter, and David Walter. Cross bearer will be Alaina Walter and scripture bearer will be Thad Peterson. Honorary bearers will be Dennis "Mac" Harten and Terry O'Hotto.
