Howard Flowers, age 84 of Sauk Centre, died on November 18, 2008 at his home in Sauk Centre, surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 22 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30 p.m.
Howard "Howie" Flowers was born December 9, 1923 in Kasota Township, Le Sueur County, Minnesota to Charles and Etta (McFadden) Flowers. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Rousslange on April 28, 1947 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. In 1962, Howard and Lorraine moved from town to their farm in Sauk Centre Township. Along with farming, Howard owned and operated Sauk Centre Body Shop, now known as Flowers Collision Center. He began the business in 1948 and in 1974 his son Jim joined him. Jim took over the family business when Howard retired after more than forty years, in 1989.Howard was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and the Bishop Busch Council #4863 Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed farming, deer hunting, fishing with his grandchildren, taking apart computers, making gourd birdhouses, and drinking coffee and shaking dice with friends at the Main Street Café.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine; children, Judy (Kevin) Powers of Alexandria, Mary Lou (Dan) Keating of Mayville, North Dakota, and Jim (fiancé Kristy Luberts) Flowers of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Craig, Michael, Jason and Jennifer Keating, Chris and Katie Powers, and Max and A.J. Flowers; great-grandson, Conner Powers; sisters, Pauline (Jim) Graham of Dover, Minnesota, Ina Mae Fischer of Kilkenny, Minnesota, and Mary (Joe) Becker of Albert Lea, Minnesota; brother, David (LaDona) Flowers of Owatonna, Minnesota.
Howard was preceded in death by his son Eugene on December 24, 1948; parents; sister, Margie Borgmeier; brothers, Francis Flowers, Richard Flowers, and Charles Flowers, Jr.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Craig Keating, Michael Keating, Jason Keating, Jennifer Keating, Chris Powers, Katie Powers, Max Flowers, and A.J. Flowers. Honorary bearers will be Howie's Main Street Dice and Coffee Buddies. Serving as cross bearer will be Dan Keating and scripture bearer will be Kevin "Binder" Powers.
