Herman F. Middendorf, age 92 of Freeport, died on Friday, March 7th at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 10th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the church in Freeport. Golden Years Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. and St. Joseph's Men's Society and Freeport Lions Club at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Herman Middendorf was born on April 16, 1910 in Melrose Township, Stearns County to Henry and Mary (Westendorf) Middendorf. He married Helen Zwilling on October 13, 1936 at St. John the Baptist Church in Collegeville. The couple farmed near the Freeport area until 1974 when they moved to town. Herman remained active with farming by helping his sons on their family farms until 91 years of age. He enjoyed farming, reading and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Herman was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport, St. Joseph's Men's Society and the Freeport Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Middendorf of Freeport; children, Tom Middendorf (Rita) of Freeport, Richard Middendorf (Dorothy) of Melrose, Henry Middendorf (Kathy) of Freeport, Mark Middendorf (Kathy) of Freeport, Neil Middendorf of Freeport, Linda Pierskalla (Gary) of Freeport, Lola Schlapkohl (Scott) of Steamboat Springs, CO, Nita O'Connell (Fran) of Haggar City, WI, Dan Middendorf (Rosie) of Verndale and Inez Jones (Neal) of Paynesville; 38 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brother, August "Happy" Middendorf of Freeport and sister, Clara Michael of Freeport.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary Middendorf; infant daughter; grandson, Karl Middendorf and one great granddaughter; brothers, Fred, Henry and Joe Middendorf; sisters, Elizabeth Brickweg, Aurelia Goebel, Saphia Hiltner, Marie Heidgerken and Anna Klaphake.
Serving as casket bearers will be Herman's sons, Tom, Dick, Henry, Mark, Neil and Dan Middendorf. Serving as cross bearer will be Diane Stuckel and Leon Middendorf as scripture bearer. Honorary bearers will be Freeport Lions Club.
