Herbert C. "Herb" Meyer, age 87 of New Munich, died peacefully on Monday, September 8, 2014, surrounded by his family at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by St. Joseph's Men's Society, Catholic United Financial, and St. Leo Court 786 Catholic Order of Foresters at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Herbert Clemens Meyer was born March 29, 1927, in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minnesota, to John and Caroline (Anton) Meyer. He attended school in Meire Grove. On September 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Lucille Hoppe at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. He farmed his entire life southeast of New Munich and continued to help his sons on the farm after retirement. He enjoyed trips to the casino, duck hunting, ice fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Herb was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, St. Joseph's Men's Society, Catholic United Financial, and St. Leo Court 786 Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his children, Ken Meyer of New Munich, Roger (Sharon) Meyer of Melrose, Lois (John) Walton of Bloomington, Diane (Jeff) Lee of Roseau, Brenda (Pat) Schleper of Paynesville, and Cheryl (Chris) Reeve of Maple Lake; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson; brothers and sisters, Ralph Meyer of Paynesville, Philip (Rosie) Meyer of Greenwald, Cyril (Darlene) Meyer of Meire Grove, Mary Ann (Clarence) Wenker of Melrose, Joanne (Gene) Fischer of St. Cloud, Bernice (Bill) Farmer of St. Cloud, and Eddie (Ann) Meyer of Cold Spring.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lucille Meyer on May 9, 2010; infant son, Frank Meyer; brother and sister-in-law, Jerome (Marcella) Meyer; sister and brother-in-law, Lorraine (Peter) Ludwig; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Meyer; and great-grandson, Liam Johnson.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jordan Schleper, Brandon Schleper, Brian Walton, Christopher Meyer, Jennifer Johnson, and Spencer Lee. Cross bearer will be Rachel Walton and scripture bearer will be Mckenzi Schwarz-Reeve.
