Herbert Hinnenkamp

Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Herbert P. "Herb" Hinnenkamp, age 83, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, MN. Herb died Thursday, July 7, 2005 after a long battle with lung disease. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery in Melrose.

Friends may call between 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral mass. Parish prayers will be 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Herb was born on April 23, 1922 in Melrose, MN to Bernard (Ben) and Mary (Angelbeck) Hinnenkamp. He married Marie R. Dickhaus on November 14, 1944 in Melrose. Herb worked at Veterans Hospital in St. Cloud for 5 years before moving to Spring Hill, MN where he farmed from 1949 to 1979. He worked for Associated Milk Producers Incorporated (AMPI) as a field representative from 1971 to 1979, at which time he moved his family to Little Falls, MN where he managed the Pierz Coop Creamery for AMPI until his retirement in 1986. He moved to Melrose upon his retirement where he enjoyed his hobbies of bowling, fishing, playing cards and watching baseball games. When his health no longer allowed him to participate in all of his hobbies, he taught himself how to explore the Internet and enjoyed sending email messages to his children and grandchildren. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.

Herb is survived by his wife, Marie; sons and daughters, Judy (Art) Winter, Cold Spring; Everett (Kathy), Mandan, ND; Ron (Patti), Long Prairie; Elaine (Jim) Moscho, Sauk Centre; Deborah (Scott) Goehring, Albuquerque, NM; Tim (Lyn), Sartell; David (Carla), St. Cloud; Carla (Jeff) Allen, Cambridge; and Scott (Jodee), St. Cloud; brothers and sisters, Collette (Henry) Von Walde, Melrose; Lidwina Brake, Sauk Centre; Irma (Casimir) Otte, Sauk Centre; Robert, Melrose; and Bernadine Winter, Greenwald; 19 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary; brothers, Bernard, Clarence and Isidore; and sister, Thekla Blenker.

Casket bearers will be Everett, Ron, Tim, David, Allen and Scott Hinnenkamp and Troy Winter. Cross bearer will be Dustin Hinnenkamp and scripture bearer will be Mitchell Hinnenkamp. Honorary bearers will be Bob Doyle, John Middendorf, Rich VanDrehle, Elmer Kettler and the members of Council 1633 Knights of Columbus.
