Henry J. VonWahlde, age 99 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vince Lieser will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Henry VonWahlde was born January 11, 1907 in Melrose Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Anthony and Elizabeth (Husman) VonWahlde. On June 1, 1932 he married Colette Hinnenkamp at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple farmed in Melrose Township until retiring in 1979. Since October of 2006 he had resided at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose.Henry was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing, ice skating and playing cards with neighbors and family.
Survivors include his wife, Colette VonWahlde of Melrose; three children, Jerome (Elvera) VonWahlde and Robert (Pat) VonWahlde, all of Melrose and Delores (Melvin) Gerads of Upsala; 16 grandchildren; and 37 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Ben, Joseph, Edward and John VonWahlde, Lily and Mary Hinnenkamp and Clara Peckskamp.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dave, John, Dan, Gary and Mike VonWahlde, Robert, Donald and Jamie Gerads. Cross bearer will be Matt VonWahlde and scripture bearer will be Debbie Engelmeyer.
