Henry B. Schulzetenberg, age 85, New Munich, died peacefully from chronic heart failure on January 22, 2005 surrounded by his family at the Albany Area Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 25 at 11 a.m. at Church of Immaculate Conception, New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB and Rev. Julius Beckermann, OSB concelebrating. Interment will immediately follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. St. Joseph's Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and Albany Knights of Columbus will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Henry Schulzetenberg was born April 29, 1919 in Oak Township to Henry G. and Pauline (Leukam) Schulzetenberg. Henry grew up on a dairy farm south of Freeport and attended the Sacred Heart School of New Munich. He was a member of Church of Immaculate Conception, New Munich.Henry married Sylvia Mary Wenker on October 3, 1949 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald. The couple raised their seven children on the family farm where Henry grew up, south of Freeport. Over the years, Henry was a trustee of the church, member of the New Munich Lions, Albany Knights of Columbus, Council # 3628, Catholic Order of Foresters, parish council and board member of the New Munich Creamery. Henry found enjoyment watching sports on TV, bowling and especially playing cards. He was never happier than when he could be helping on the farm or spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Henry is survived by his wife, Sylvia of New Munich; children, Dan (Joyce) Schulzetenberg, Freeport; Richard (Monica) Schulzetenberg, Deb (Ted) Spanier, all of Sauk Centre; Ruth (Jim) Hartman, Yale, Iowa; Carl (Kathy) Schulzetenberg, Freeport; Paula (MJ) Wenker, Cottage Grove; and Gary (Nancy) Schulzetenberg, Albany; and 15 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Ed (Irene) Schulzetenberg; sisters, Rose Meyer and Marie (Larry) Laing; and sister-in-law, Beata Schulzetenberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Othmar, Sister Ermenilda, OSB, Irene, Martin, and Father Ray Schulzetenberg; step-mother, Louise (Marthaler) Schulzetenberg; and brother-in-law, Norbert Meyer.
Serving as casket bearers will be Paul Schulzetenberg, Kari Schulzetenberg, Brad Schulzetenberg, Claire Spanier, Chris Hartman, Ben Wenker, Jacob Hartman and Mark Spanier. Cross bearer will be Charles Wenker and scripture bearer will be Allison Wenker. Honorary bearers will be St. Joseph's Society and Catholic Order of Foresters. Gift bearers will be Anna and Emma Schulzetenberg. Mass servers will be Emily and Kelli Schulzetenberg.
