Henry Evens

Henry W. Evens, age 100 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, November 30, 2014 at CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 3 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus rosary at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Henry William Evens was born July 15, 1914 in Elrosa, Minnesota to Joseph and Anna (Hens) Evens. He attended school in Elrosa and Morris Agricultural College before beginning farming in 1935 at Padua, Minnesota. On September 17, 1946 he married Marion Walz at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose, Minnesota and they farmed together until 1969 when they moved to Sauk Centre. Henry started his 45 year career as an assessor in 1951 for Raymond Township. After retiring from the farm he assessed various townships and the City of Sauk Centre until 1996. He was a Minnesota certified appraiser, served as secretary of the Stearns County Fair Board, and was a member of the City Planning Commission. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus, Catholic United Financial, and Sauk Centre Seniors.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Evens of Sauk Centre; three children, Carol (Larry) Lahr, Susan Imdieke, and Duane (Carol) Evens, all of Sauk Centre; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Bette Boutwell of Lansing, Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Frank, Math, Anthony, and Christ Evens; sisters, Ann Veeder, Terry Egeland, Marie Johnson, and Cecelia Peters; and an infant brother and sister.

Serving as casket bearers will be Kevin, Aaron, Ryan, and Joshua Lahr, Jason Evens, and Eric Miller. Cross bearer will be Amy Brandt and scripture bearer will be Amanda Lahr.
