Henry J. Deters, age 75 of Elrosa, died peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 25 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Robert Rolfes and Rev. Jeff Ethen concelebrating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. St. James Catholic Aid will pray at 5:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Henry John Deters was born August 12, 1935 in Lake George Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Frank and Margaret (Uphus) Deters. On June 4, 1957 he married Anna Mae Rieland at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. The couple farmed in Lake George Township, Stearns County.Henry was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa where he was a member of the choir for over 45 years. He also served as a Trustee from 1983 to 2001, Treasurer, and member of the Financial Committee.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Aid, which he served as Vice-President and received the Service Award. He was also a member of the Elrosa Senior Citizens.Henry enjoyed farming, loved polka music, and enjoyed bowling, playing cards with the neighbors, and home-style cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae Deters of Sauk Centre; five children, Karen (Mel) Loxtercamp of Sauk Centre, Gary (Brenda) Deters of Elrosa, Donald (Rebecca) Deters of Maple Grove, Juliane (Duane) Tanner of Spicer, and Timothy (Kari) Deters of Sartell; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty (James) Petermeier of Melrose and Helen Meyer of Gardner, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ann Hinnenkamp; and brother, Frank Deters, Jr.
Serving as casket bearers will be Leo and Doug Loxtercamp, Justin, Brandon, Jordon and Cory Deters, Hayden Tanner, and Justin Burdick. Cross bearer will be Tammy Loxtercamp, scripture bearer will be Sheri Leonard, and gift bearers will be Ramsey and Collin Tanner, Jessica and Courtney Deters.
