Helen M. Wiener, age 99 years and 7 months of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at the CentraCare Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will be in St. Anthony of Padua Cemetery in Padua.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Helen Monica Welters was born October 23, 1914 in Albany, Minnesota to Reinhard and Mary Anna (Beckers) Welters. She married Adolph Wiener on June 25, 1941 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. The couple farmed in Getty Township until 1976. Helen moved to Lake Shore Estates in 1997 and then to the CentraCare Nursing Home in 2007. Helen taught in rural and elementary schools for eight years and then CCD classes for 20 years. She was very active in teaching religion class at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and was a 4-H leader of Raymond Ramblers for 30 years.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church and a former member of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Padua, Christian Mothers, and was part of the Stearns County Homemakers group. Helen loved reading, sewing, and enjoyed arts and crafts.
Survivors include her children, Duane (Mary) Wiener of Cody, Wyoming, Loren (Joey) Wiener of Sauk Centre, Ann Marie Johnson of Clearwater, Cheryl Wiener of Champlin, Alphonse (Anne) Wiener of Osakis, Rosemary Lensing of Mounds View, and Stephen (fiancé, Ann Rodney) Wiener of St. Louis Park; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Wiener of Long Prairie; 41 grandchildren, 109 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brothers, Albert Welters of Melrose and Robert Welters of Melrose; and sisters, Hildegard Frieler of Greenwald, Judy Essler of Kenmare, North Dakota, and Rosie Gregory of Belgrade.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Wiener on September 16, 2002; son, Arnold Wiener; brothers, Lawrence Welters, Herman Welters, and an infant brother; and son-in-law, Merl Lensing.
Serving as casket bearers will be Greg Wiener, Brian Wiener, Jacob Wiener, Clark Lensing, Sonny Neuman, and Martin Wiener. Cross bearer will be Amy Harnack and scripture bearer will be Colleen Pfaff. Serving as lector will be Wendee Foley.
