Helen E. Marthaler, age 84 of Sauk Centre, died Monday, September 5, 2011 at her home at Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Andrew Marthaler officiating and Deacon Lawrence Kaas concelebrating. Interment will be in St. Alexius Cemetery in West Union.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Helen Elizabeth Radermacher was born July 13, 1927 in West Union, Minnesota to Andrew and Helen (Fink) Radermacher. Helen grew up in West Union and attended country school through the 8th grade. On September 14, 1948 she married Vernon "Bud" Marthaler at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. Helen worked as a nurse's aide at St. Michael's Hospital from 1970 until her retirement in 1996.
Helen was a member of Our Lady of the Angel's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, and Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life. She was a Gold Star Mother and belonged to the American Legion Post 67 Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Vernon "Bud" Marthaler of Sauk Centre; children, Steven Marthaler of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Sharon Marthaler of Sauk Centre, Tom (Linda) Marthaler of Sauk Centre, Cynthia (John) Eischen of Osakis, and Marvin Marthaler of Sauk Centre; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Andrew Radermacher of Alexandria.She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Marthaler on May 22, 1970; parents, Andrew and Helen Radermacher; and sisters, Genevieve Radermacher, Eleanore Messer, and Dorothy Radermacher.
Serving as casket bearers will be her children and son-in-law, Steven Marthaler, Sharon Marthaler, Tom Marthaler, Cynthia Eischen, John Eischen, and Marvin Marthaler. Cross bearer will be Judy Brieter and scripture bearer will be Lorrayne Traut.
