Hazel M. Neumann, age 97 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 20 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. Kevin Born will officiate. Private inurnment will be at Boyd Cemetery, near Boyd, Minnesota.
Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Hazel Margaret Anderson was born April 24, 1913 on a farm near Boyd, Minnesota to Theodore and Marie (Gresfrud) Anderson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd and was a graduate of Boyd High School. On June 18, 1932 she married Leslie Stevens in Granite Falls, Minnesota. The couple farmed near Boyd until 1948, when they moved to town and owned and operated a restaurant. She also worked at the Red and White grocery store in Boyd. Leslie passed away in 1954.Hazel also worked at Glacier National Park, and later managed the Associated Loan Company office in Montevideo. On October 1, 1966 she married John Neumann at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre, where the couple made their home. She was the site coordinator for the Senior Dining site in Sauk Centre for ten years. She retired in 1986.In life Hazel enjoyed her family and her many friends, young and old. She loved to bake, entertain, and play cards.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Roger (Shirley) Stevens of Little Rock, Arkansas and Dale (Marianne) Stevens of Huntsville, Alabama; step-daughter, Janet Fritz of Falcon Heights; four grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Mathis of Denver, Colorado; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Leslie Stevens on May 28, 1954 and John Neuman on January 5, 1997; sisters, Lilly Erickson, Trudie Anderson, and MayBelle Hjelm; brothers, Roy and James Anderson.
