Goldie Miland, age 92 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Mother of Mercy Assisted Senior Living in Albany, Minnesota.
Goldie Elaine Dettler was born in Pillsbury on April 4, 1929, and raised in Swanville. She married Raymond Gamradt on November 16, 1947, where they had a farm southwest of Sauk Centre. Following Ray’s death in 1954 Goldie moved into town with their two young sons.
Goldie married Kenneth Miland on January 19, 1958. Together they raised 10 children and, over 31 years, fostered 46 infants, children, and adults with special needs.
She was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for almost 70 years. An avid reader—valedictorian of her high school graduation class—she also enjoyed cooking, sewing, playing cards, watching Wheel of Fortune and doing word puzzles. Her favorite pastime overall was spending time with friends and family. She loved to learn each person’s life story and find about what was going on in their world. Visits were more valuable to her than gifts.
Survivors include her children, Bill (Gwen) Gamradt, John Gamradt, Lynne (BJ) Merten, Randy (Lynn) Miland, Bob (Sandee) Miland, David (Randy) Miland, Kathy Williams, Kim Miland, Byron (Jody) Miland, and Tami (Randy) Ruegemer; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Koehn; and many, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Goldie was preceded in death by both husbands, Ray Gamradt in 1954 and Ken Miland in 1999; parents, Rudy and Hilda Dettler; sister, Lorna Koehn; and brother, Ervin Dettler.
She had a beautiful life filled with family. And for anybody who knew her, you were part of her family, whether you knew her for 5 minutes or 50 years. She’s at peace. She will be missed. She will always be remembered.
