Glory Ann "Annie" Bonfig, age 84 of Freeport, died peacefully Monday, April 23, 2007 at the St. Cloud Hospital, surrounded by her family after a short illness with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB and Rev. Luke Steiner will concelebrate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by Goldenaires Senior Citizens and Christian Mothers at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Glory Ann Bonfig was born November 7, 1922, in New Munich, Minnesota to William and Appolonia (Frevel) Stroeing. On April 24, 1941 she married Sylvester "Buck" Bonfig at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. She was a life long resident of Freeport and had worked as a clerk at the Freeport Drug Store. Following her husband's death she became a cosmetologist and worked for many years at the Freeport Beauty Shop.Glory Ann was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister, Christian Mothers, Goldenaires Senior Citizens, Young at Hearts Club, Senior Citizens Quilting Group and Sacred Heart Church Quilting Group. Her favorite pastimes included bowling, card playing with her 500 club and her bridge club, quilting and sewing, gardening, canning and cooking. She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters, Beverly (David) Omtvedt of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Norma (Lenas) Hedlund of Pine Island and Jean (Allen) Abeln of Avon; daughter-in-law, Jeanne Bonfig of Freeport; the joys of her life: nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Lloyd "Mickey" (Bertha) Stroeing of North St. Paul; sister-in-law, Beatrice "Bae" Stroeing of St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews, who were a special part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sylvester "Buck" Bonfig in 1969; son, Leonard "Butch" Bonfig in 2000; brother, John Stroeing; and granddaughter, Gwen Marie Bonfig, daughter of Jeanne and Butch Bonfig.
Serving as casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Darin Omtvedt, Jerry Bonfig, Michael Munsterteiger, Drew Hedlund, Kirsten Hedlund, and Jessica Abeln. Cross bearers will be Heidi Hayden and Madeline Antoine and scripture bearer will be Jill Klasen. Honorary bearers include Mary Ellen Rosen, Viola Borgerding, Betty Hennen, Judy Ettel, Julie Meyer and Phyllis Laing.
