Gladys R. Walker, age 70, of Grey Eagle died Wednesday, April 13, 2005 at the St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Melrose with Rev. Steve Hayden officiating. Burial will follow Monday, April 25, 2005 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
Friends may call Friday, April 22, 2005 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Grey Eagle and on Saturday at the church in Melrose from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Gladys R. Walker was born April 1, 1935 in Redby, Minnesota to Ole and Laura (Johnson) Lene. She grew up on Red Lake Indian Reservation during the depression. She was united in marriage to Lionel Brown on August 2, 1952. They lived in the Twin Cities and raised 3 children. Lionel died on May 15, 1958 and was buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Gladys was united in marriage to David L. Walker on May 1, 1959. They raised 3 children together and moved to Grey Eagle in 1969. They farmed and owned a gas station and she later was a bartender in the Grey Eagle area retiring from the Double-R-Saloon in Grey Eagle. Gladys loved to dance, fish, go gambling and spend time with people.
Survivors include her children, Debora Wolbeck (Alcuin) of Burtrum, Joseph Walker (Mandy) of Grey Eagle, Todd Walker (Cindy) of Swanville, Roxanne Pfaff (John) of Melrose, Dave Walker, Jr. (Laurie) of Park Rapids, John Walker (Tanya) of Burtrum; brothers and sisters, Archie Lene of Minneapolis, Kenneth Lene (Fran) of Grey Eagle, Loraine "Rainy" Moor of Monticello, Lavina "Minna" Wright of Illinois, Leroy "Bunky" Lene, Sr. of Elk River, Barbara Quirk of Freeport, Shirley Limberg (Frank) of East Bethel; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Lionel Brown; children, Verna Josephine "Bonnie" Ross and Judith White; 1 grandson John Alquin and a number of nieces and nephews.
Urn bearer will be Melissa Pfaff.
