Gladys Hegg

Gladys Leona Hegg, at the age of 96 years and 3 days, went to join her heavenly Father on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 and to reunite with her husband, Charlie and her son, Wayne.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 30 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Gladys Leona Gerdes was born August 23, 1918 at home near Morris, Minnesota to Jake and Tena Gerdes. She was the youngest of three. She was united in marriage to Charlie Hegg on December 24, 1937 in Morris. They lived in Morris until 1942 and then moved to Sauk Centre when Charlie was offered a position with Midland Cooperative.

She touched the lives of many as she raised her family as well as working for the Watskies and Uhles in Morris and babysitting "Baby Kay" Foster, working at Dorothy Lanes' Children Home, babysitting for Bernard and Kay Gruber, and then John and Christy Felling. Besides caring for her family, Gladys enjoyed baking (the cookie jar was always full and the store bought cookies were a treat), BINGO, needlework for baptismal towels and quilting at church, and being a friend to many.

Survivors include her son, Bruce Hegg and his wife, Jackie of Sauk Centre and their children, Candace and fiancé, Josh of Sauk Centre, with Kylee, Charlie, Emmitt, Zoey, Isaiah, and Elizebeth, and son, Wayne and his wife, Aimie of St. Cloud; daughter, Gayle Keehr and her husband, Bill of Baxter and their children, Aaron and his wife, Christa of Oronoco with Jacob and Hannah, and daughter, Tena Lorette and her husband Rick of Baudette, with Simon and Riley; and many nieces and nephews.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie; son, Wayne; parents, Jake and Tena Gerdes; step-father, Henry Wagner; sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Conrad Olsen; and brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Lila Gerdes.

Serving as casket bearers will be Joshua Chilson, Rick Lorette, Wayne Hegg, Jim Proell, Aaron Keehr, and Gary Gerdes.
