Gilman C. "Gil" Alverson age 82 of Sauk Centre died Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Rebecca Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Browerville.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Gilman Alverson was born April 6, 1931 in Hatton, North Dakota to Gilbert and Clara (Paulson) Alverson. Gil served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After being honorably discharged in 1958, Gil moved to Minneapolis where he met and married Joyce Robinson. Gil worked in merchandising and sales and owned and operated Merpri Incorporated. Gil was a member of First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre.

Gil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Alverson of Sauk Centre; children CarrieLee (Mark) Stevens of Staples and Rich (Chris) Alverson of Osakis; grandchildren, Heather (Chris) Gray of Winchester, Indiana, Melanie Arnold of Minneapolis, Kyle (Ashly) Arnold of Fargo, North Dakota, Melinda (Preston) Nash of Monitcello, Brittany (Nick) Laven of Osakis, Robb (Britta) Alverson of Osakis, Michelle Alverson of Osakis, Diana Alverson of Osakis, Bobbi Jo Alverson of Osakis, and Will Alverson of Osakis; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sister, Corrine Lamb of Fargo, North Dakota; sisters-in-law, Doris Alverson of Fargo, North Dakota, Cherry (Brad) Weishair of Sauk Centre, and Mary Lynn Fisher of New Hope; brother-in-law, Rob (Rosemary) Robinson of Long Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Clara Alverson; daughter, Laura Alverson; sister, Alice Olinger; and brother, Elroy Alverson.

Serving as casket bearers will be Kyle Arnold, Robb Alverson, Will Alverson, Preston Nash, Nick Laven, and Chris Grey.
