Giles C. "Dick" Rieland, age 67 of New Munich, died peacefully Wednesday, July 9, 2008 surrounded by his family at his home in New Munich, Minnesota, after a six year battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating, and serving as deacon, Rick Scherping. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. followed by the St. Joseph's Men's Society and Catholic Aid Society at 7:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Giles C. "Dick" Rieland was born May 3, 1941 in Oak Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Leo and Eleanor (Nathe) Rieland. On July 5, 1965 he was united in marriage to Barbara Imdieke at St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. Dick continued farming his entire life on the family farm.He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, St. Joseph's Men's Society, the Catholic Aid Society, and on the Oak Township Board for many years. Dick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed farming and his John Deere equipment, hunting, fishing, and going to the casino to play his Sizzling Sevens machine.
Survivors include his wife, Barb Rieland of New Munich; children, Roger (Pam) Rieland of Avon, Cindy (Jerry) Schmiesing of New Munich, Brian (Missy) Rieland of Albany, and Luke (Krissy) Rieland of St. Joseph; grandchildren, Kelsey, Jessica, Parker, Jordan, Tyler, Isaac, Mikayla, Brady, Jack, and Kaitlyn; brothers, Bob (Ruth Ann) Rieland of Sauk Centre and Chuck (Lucy) Rieland of Fridley; sister, Barb (Hunter) Anderson of Cambridge; and sister-in-law, Monica Rieland of New Munich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Eleanor Rieland; brothers, Vernon and Marvin Rieland; and sister-in-law, Lou Rieland.
Serving as casket bearers will be Steve Rieland, Jim Rieland, Joe Rieland, Dennis Rieland, Bill Rieland, Greg Rieland and Mark Rieland. Cross bearer will be Tyler Schmiesing and scripture bearer will be Parker Rieland.
