Gilbert W. Schleisner, age 96 of Coon Rapids, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Funeral services for Gilbert W. Schleisner will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 7 at First Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Kevin Born officiating. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Gilbert William Schleisner was born December 3, 1913 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to William and Rose (Stuhl) Schleisner. He graduated from North Division High School in 1932. On February 27, 1937 he was united in marriage to Odessa "Sally" Morrill, at in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Gil began his career working for the United States Postal Service as a railway mail clerk. Later he worked in various managerial positions particularly supervising highway mail transportation in the Upper Midwest. His hobbies included square dancing, studying genealogy, working with computers, collecting and polishing agates, stamp collecting, and traveling in the United States.As an active family-oriented father, he was always ready for any outing or get-together. Picnics, sledding, ball games, card playing, and especially summer vacations in Northern Wisconsin with family and friends were exciting experiences. Later in life, it was the pleasure of seeing grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren.
Gilbert is survived by his children, Janet (Robert) Bjork of Sauk Centre, Anita (Garth) Conard of Aurora, Illinois, and Ronald (Wanda) Schleisner of Ferndale, Washington; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Alta Lyon of Rock Island, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his wife Odessa "Sally" Schleisner on June 27, 1998; and sister, Margaret Benson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre or the American Diabetes Association.
