Gertrude M. "Gertie" Tamm, age 82, of Albany, died unexpectedly on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at her home in Albany.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22 at Seven Dolors Catholic Church in Albany with Rev. Jonathan Licari, O.S.B. officiating. Interment will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in St. Anthony.

Friends may call Monday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church gathering area. Parish prayers will be at 6 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Monday evening.

Gertrude Tamm was born February 10, 1926 in Farming Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to William and Margaret (Latzke) VanHoorik. On October 19, 1948 she married Ralph Tamm in Albany. The couple farmed near the St. Anthony area. In 1974 Gertie moved to Albany. She retired from the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home after many years of service. Religion was very important to Gertrude. It showed through her kindness towards people and especially her love for her family. She was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, video solitaire, gardening and embroidering.

Survivors include her children, Joan (Glenn) Vos of Avon, Joyce (Floyd) Rodenwald of Albany, Pat (Tom) Hiltner of Freeport, Bev (Roger) Roering of Avon, Roger Tamm of Avon and Brenda "Pixie" Achman of Avon (and her fiance, Rick Hansen); 18 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; and sister, Lucille VanHoorik of Freeport.

Gertie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph Tamm on September 27, 1971; son-in-law, Mike Achman on September 15, 2002; brothers and sisters, Alfred, Eleanor Fischer, Catherine Fuchs, Margaret Gertken, Robert, Bennie, Alma Kunstleben, Joseph, Jacob, Mary Schulte, Annie Lang; and several nieces and nephews.

Serving as casket bearers will be Justen Vos, Bradley Rodenwald, Craig Hiltner, Rachel (Roering) Eibensteiner, Ben Tamm and Josh Achman. Serving as cross bearer will be Lucille VanHoorik and scripture bearer will be Shawn Vos. Mass servers will be Katelyn and Nikki Tamm. Gift bearers will be Kyle Achman, Emily Tamm and Carina Achman. Eucharistic Ministers will be Mary Saurer and Ceil Lenarz. Lector will be Judy Beuning.
