Gerald J. "Jerry" Primus, age 64 of Melrose, passed away Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota from injuries sustained in a car accident.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 1 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Melrose at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Gerald John Primus was born May 20, 1953 in Melrose, Minnesota to Joseph and Catherine (Olmscheid) Primus. He was united in marriage to Ann Marie Voss on April 12, 1980 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Jerry worked at Jennie-O Foods in Melrose for 45 years. He started at entry level and worked his way up to plant manager; retiring a year ago. He enjoyed the outdoors, reading the St. Cloud Times, visiting with people, and attending family gatherings. His laughter and ability to connect with people will be greatly missed.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and Catholic United Financial.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Marie Primus of Melrose; children, Ruth Primus of Woodbury and Jason Primus of St. Cloud; parents, Joseph and Catherine Primus of Melrose; brothers, Rich (Carol) Primus of Albany, Virgil (Mary) Primus of Melrose, Melvin (Brenda) Primus of Melrose, and Dale (Nancy) Primus of Sauk Centre; and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Primus in 1968; an infant brother; nephews, Joel and Mitchell Primus; grandparents, William and Rose Primus and John and Frances Olmscheid; father and mother-in-law, Herman and Frances Voss, and brother-in-law, Albert Voss.
Serving as casket bearers will be Eric, Nick, Jacob, Jordan, Andrew, and Riley Primus. Cross bearer will be Heather Roering and scripture bearer will be Rachael Redinus. Readers will be Eric Primus and Rachael Redinus. Petitions will be read by Sarah Katterhagen. Gift bearers will be Krista Primus and Ana Santana. Eucharistic Ministers will be Rich Primus, Carol Primus, and Brenda Primus. Words of Remembrance will be by Bob Boeckermann and Becky Stepan.
