Gerald A. “Jerry” Lahmers, age 91 of Melrose, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River, Minnesota.
A Celebration of Life gathering (no formal program) will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, December 30 at the Melrose American Legion. Please come visit with the family and join them for dinner at 4 p.m.
A private inurnment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Melrose with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
Gerald Arthur Lahmers was born December 9, 1932 in Eyota, Minnesota to Clarence and Bernice (Bradt) Lahmers. He graduated from Eyota High School in 1950. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and worked on airplanes that landed on the aircraft carriers. After serving in the military, Jerry went to Veterinary school at Luther College and the University of Minnesota. He opened his own practice in Eyota, where he met Betty. They were married on April 14, 1965. They moved to Melrose in 1978 where Jerry joined the Melrose Veterinary Clinic.
Jerry enjoyed fishing, bow hunting, camping and watching sports of all kinds, especially the Vikings and Gopher football games. His witty and sarcastic sense of humor will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his children, Bob (Katie) Lahmers of Zimmerman, Victoria Gerads of Champlin, and Eric (Michelle) Lahmers of Eugene, Oregon; and grandchildren, Maya and Max Gerads, and Leah Lahmers.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Betty Lahmers on February 21, 2019.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred, and a donation will be made to a charity of the family’s choice.
