George "Bud" Codden, age 90 of Sauk Centre, died on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Revs. James Statz and Sylvester Kleinschmidt will concelebrate with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.
George Codden was born on October 4, 1913 in Superior, Wisconsin to George and Alma (Wolden) Codden. On August 6, 1941 he married Ethel O'Gara Dickinson at St. Paul's Rectory in Sauk Centre. He was a long-time resident of Sauk Centre. He built the Sauk Centre Coliseum in 1946 and owned and operated it until 1966. He also owned an upholstery shop in Sauk Centre. From a young man on he was employed by the Great Northern Railroad, later the Burlington Northern, until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church.
Survivors include one daughter, June (Emil) Polipnick of Sauk Centre; four grandchildren, Tim (Susan) Polipnick of Nisswa, Tom (Judy) Polipnick of Sauk Centre, Nancy (Shane) Patzer of Miami, Oklahoma, Todd (Meredith) Polipnick of North Branch; five great grandchildren, Richard (Becky) Polipnick and Erin Polipnick, all of Baxter, Tom (Jackie) Polipnick, Jr. of Sartell, Kirstin and Kayla Patzer, both of Miami, Oklahoma; five great great grandchildren, Chyki, Kayla, Darius, Austin and Brittney; sisters, Shirley Gologoski of Superior, Wisconsin, Beverly (Jack) Van de Walker of Hemet, California; brothers, Clayton (Pauline) Codden of Havre, Montana, Bernard Codden of Downey, California.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel Codden on January 3, 1994; sister, Erma Codden; brothers, Frank, Ralph, Howard and Robert Codden.
Serving as casket bearers will be Michael and Robert Codden, Shane Patzer, Tom and Tim Polipnick and Tom Polipnick, Jr.
