Genevieve A. "Gen" Thompson, age 91 of Melrose, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at St. Benedict's Senior Community Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 2 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Ken Thielman officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose.

Genevieve Thompson was born February 23, 1915 in New Munich, Minnesota to Herman and Amelia (Ross) Roering. On June 23, 1945 she married Cecil "Bob" Thompson. The couple lived in Elgin, Illinois where she worked at Elgin Watch Company for many years. In 1968 they moved to Big Lake, Minnesota where they owned and operated Lake Aire Motel. They retired in 1977 and moved to Big Birch Lake and in 1984 they moved to Melrose. Gen lived with Dan and Rita Woeste from 2002 to 2006 and in September of 2006 she moved to St. Benedict's Senior Community Center in St. Cloud. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the American Legion Post 101 Auxiliary. Gen enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her sister, Stella Gruenke of St. Cloud; many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cecil "Bob" Thompson on May 1, 1995; brothers, Dan, Arthur, Arnold, and Othmar Roering; and sisters, Esther Frampton, Loretta Thielen, Olivia Thielen; and infant sister, Bernadette Roering.

Serving as casket bearers will be Bernie Schuldt, Joel Schuldt, Christopher Schuldt, Matthew Schuldt, Keith Reiter, Dan Berling, Lee Fesenmaier, and Shane Fesenmaier. Cross bearer will be Becky Reiter. Honorary bearers will be the American Legion Post 101 Auxiliary.
