Gary J. Miller, age 69 of Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at MeritCare Medical Center in Fargo, North Dakota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 10 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Gary Miller was born October 4, 1940 in Wadena, Minnesota to Stanley and Margaret (Hoffer) Miller. He served in the U.S. Air Force. On October 26, 1963 he married Clarena "Rena" Terveer at St. Frederick's Catholic Church in Verndale. The couple resided in Wadena and Silver Bay before moving to Sauk Centre in 1967. He was employed as a correctional counselor at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Sauk Centre until retiring in 1995. Since 1996 he had been employed seasonally by United Agri Products in Sauk Centre.Gary was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Sauk Centre Conservation Club, and Phantom Bucks Chapter of the Minnesota Deerhunters Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, gardening, cribbage, and all things outdoors. "Papa G" especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Rena Miller of Sauk Centre; seven children, Corie (Mike) Beckermann of Sauk Rapids, Jim (Cheryl Feela) Miller of Sauk Centre, Calvin (Linda) Miller of St. Cloud, Ryan (Lindsay) Miller of Sauk Rapids, Becky (Jesse) Hartmann of Shakopee, Nathan Miller of Portland, Oregon, and Brent Miller of Sauk Centre; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother, Margaret Miller of Staples; brothers, Tom (Jan) Miller of Staples, Dale (Liz) Miller of Wadena, and Ben (Miriam) Miller of Bemidji; sister, Marie Johnson of Verndale.
He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Miller; infant son, Jason Miller; and infant sister, Linda Miller.
Serving as casketbearers will be Jim, Calvin, Ryan, Nathan, and Brent Miller, Mike Beckermann, and Jesse Hartmann. Cross bearer will be Tate Hartmann and scripture bearer will be Kiley Hartmann. Honorary bearers will be Reid Alter, Todd Jenkin, Al Nathe, Ron Wolter, Bud Weitzel, Dan Hoppe, Bob Boyer, and Norby Moritz.
