Frances A. Berscheit, age 81 of Melrose, died Friday, July 24, 2009 in Pine Haven at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers and Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Frances Ann Schulzetenberg was born June 5, 1928 in New Munich, Minnesota to Bernard and Rose (Welle) Schulzetenberg. She was raised in New Munich and moved with her family to Melrose while she was a teenager. She was united in marriage to Joseph "Joe" Berscheit on October 14, 1952 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Frances volunteered at St. Mary's Catholic School in Melrose and enjoyed planting flowers in the many flower pots in the community. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, and Sts. Bernard and Elizabeth Council. She loved cooking, baking, flower gardening, and entertaining family and friends.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Berscheit of Melrose; son, Glenn (Mary) Berscheit of Otsego; granddaughter, Sarah Berscheit at home; brothers and sisters, Urb Schulzetenberg of Melrose, Eddie Schulzetenberg of Melrose, Joe Schulzetenberg of Freeport, Verena Thielen, Pine Court, Melrose, Evie Cook of Bellevue, Washington, Doris Braegelmann of Melrose, and Alice Mayers of Eagan; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Brenda Berscheit; brother and sisters, Roman Schulzetenberg, Rita Hinnenkamp, and Caroline Mareck.
Serving as casket bearers will be Jerry Berscheit, Larry Berscheit, Alan Mayers, Alan Schulzetenberg, Marvin Thielen, and Gary Hinnenkamp. Cross bearer will be Jenna Orth and scripture bearer will be Kyle Johnson. Honorary bearers will be LaVerne Akin, Vicki Allen, Marlene Wessel, Del Thelen, Deloris Trutna, and Virginia Tise.
