Florentine T. "Flo" Schmiesing, age 78 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Elrosa, died Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 4 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Rev. Jeff Ethen, Rev. Julian Schmiesing, OSB and Rev. Sylvester Kleinschmidt will concelebrate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Christian Mothers will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Florentine Schmiesing was born June 9, 1926 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Ignatius and Caroline (Uhlenkamp) Petermeier. On June 15, 1948 she married Leonard Schmiesing at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. The couple farmed near Elrosa. In 1956 they moved to Elrosa where Flo owned and operated Lee's Grocery for over 35 years. Since 2000 she had resided at Riverview Manor in Sauk Centre. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa, where she was a member of the choir, Christian Mothers, Elrosa Commercial Club and Elrosa Senior Citizens.
Flo was an avid baseball fan, enjoyed fishing and bowling, playing cards and embroidery.
Survivors include five children, Steve (Terri) Schmiesing, Mary Lou (Mark) Schaefer and Dan Schmiesing, all of Sauk Centre, Deb (Todd) Osmundson of Fargo, North Dakota and Jeff (Bonnie) Schmiesing of Rockville; daughter-in-law, Sharon Schmiesing of Spicer; 11 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Evelyn Jansen, Roman (Tillie) Petermeier and Edmund (Dorothy) Petermeier, all of Sauk Centre, Al (Lou) Petermier of Richmond and Erma (Elmer) Kettler of Melrose.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard on April 30, 1994; son, Kenneth Schmiesing; infant son, Joseph; and brother, Tony Petermeier.
Serving as casket bearers will be Chad, Scott, Ryan and Troy Schmiesing, Matt Schaefer and Dalton Ehresmann. Serving as cross bearer will be Amy Schintz, scripture bearer will be Sara Schmiesing and gift bearers will be Emily Schaefer, Stacey Schmiesing, Nicole and Rachel Osmundson. Honorary bearers will be friends of Florentine and 2000 Care of Riverview Manor.
