Florence R. Meyer, age 83 of Meire Grove, died Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Getty Street Assisted Living in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 1 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Florence Rose Meyer was born October 6, 1930 on the family farm three miles north of Meire Grove in Melrose Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Meinulf T. and Mary C. (Haskamp) Meyer. She attended and graduated from St. John's Elementary School in Meire Grove, St. Benedict's High School in St. Joseph, College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, and St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud. After high school, she worked in St. Cloud at Montgomery Ward, Lakeland Bakery, and First American National Bank. She then decided to become a teacher. She taught full time at Fr. Pierz Memorial High School, Little Falls Senior High School, Rocori High School, and Osakis High School. After retirement, she substituted in area schools.
Florence was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove, St. Mary's Society, and St. John's Catholic United Financial. She enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, gardening, and most of all, researching local and family histories.
Survivors include her sisters, Dolores Dols of St. Cloud and Mildred Bromenshenkel of Sauk Centre; brothers, Cyril (Jane) Meyer of Sauk Centre, Larry (Shari) Meyer of Willmar, and Richard (Bonnie) Meyer of Milaca; and 27 nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clarence and Albert "Bert" Meyer; sister, Loretta Miller; sister-in-law, Evelyn Messer; brothers-in-law, Art Miller, Ewald Dols, and Allan Bromenshenkel; and nephews, Gerald Meyer and Daniel Bromenshenkel.
Serving as casket bearers will be her nieces and nephews. Cross bearer will be Maribeth Neary and scripture bearer will be Pat Lucore.
