Fernalyce Hemmi Meyer, age 80 of Sauk Centre passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota surrounded by loved ones.

Fern bequeathed her body to the University of Minnesota Medical School.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Interment will be held at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.

Fern was born December 27, 1931 to Wayne and Alyce Fern Hemmi, weighing only 24 ounces. At age 16 she worked full-time for the Melrose City Clerk and graduated from Melrose High School. She attended the University of Minnesota for a year before marrying Alban John Meyer on July 27, 1950. The couple moved to Washington State where Al started a business as an electrical contractor. In 1960 they returned to Minnesota and settled in Greenwald, eventually moving to Sauk Centre in 1963. Fern was a licensed insurance underwriter, estate planner, and realtor. She worked as an independent agent and was an agent for Reynold's Agency prior to working many years for Main Street Farm and Home Realty in Sauk Centre.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn House of Fulton, New York, Michele (Campbell Jenkins) Meyer of Northland, New Zealand, Marie (Marty Swanson) Sedivy of Centerton, Arkansas, Robert (Denise) Meyer of Maple Grove, Susan (Whitney Thurlow) Meyer of Wanaka, New Zealand, Ann (Paul) Zilka of Richfield, Thomas (Marcyne Chalupnik) Meyer, Patrick Meyer, and Joseph Meyer, all of Sauk Centre, and Mathew (Jennifer) Meyer of Edina; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Daniel Maahs; uncle, Don Fern; cousin, Jeanne (LeVerne) Hinnenkamp, other cousins; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alban J. Meyer; infant daughter, Donna Marie Meyer; father, Wayne Hemmi; mother, Alyce Fern Maahs; step-father, Raymond Maahs; grandparents, Joe and Katherine Zenz Fern; and son-in-law, Richard House.
