Faye D. Grythe, age 86 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, May 13, 2007 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17 at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Faye Grythe was born September 10, 1920 in Melvin, Iowa to John "Jack" and Nanna (Brandt) Buchan. On November 1, 1941 she married Ervin Grythe in Roseau, Minnesota. She resided in Sauk Centre while Ervin served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1948 the couple moved to a farm in the Grey Eagle area and then in 1951 moved to a farm near Sauk Centre. In 1960 they moved to St. Paul and Faye was employed by St. John's Hospital. In 1997 she returned to Sauk Centre and resided at Riverview Manor. Since 2003 she had been a resident of St. Michael's Nursing Home.She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a former member of the Ladies Aid. Faye enjoyed crocheting and quilting, watching baseball and playing BINGO. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include six children, Dennis (Mary) Grythe of Sauk Centre, Darlene (Wayne) Rahn of Hutchinson, Judy Bailey of Sauk Centre, John (Barbara) Grythe of St. Paul, Dale Grythe of Brookings, South Dakota, and Dan (Marie) Grythe of Inver Grove Heights; 22 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Wanda Heining of Columbia Heights; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Grythe on March 10, 1995; her parents; three brothers, James "Buster", Ralph and Eldon Buchan; grandson, Troy Bailey; and two great-grandchildren, Hollis and Scarlett Anderson.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jon Herlund, Mike Bailey, Tony, Neal, Matt, and Keith Grythe. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren.
