Evelyn Jansen

Evelyn G. Jansen, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be held at 5:15 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Evelyn Gertrude Petermeier was born June 27, 1923 in Getty Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Ignatius and Caroline (Uhlenkamp) Petermeier. She was united in marriage to Henry Jansen on June 17, 1947 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre.

She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Christian Mothers, Paul V. Donart VFW Auxiliary Post #2853, St. Theresa's Mission Group, and the Sauk Centre Seniors. Evelyn was a lector at St. Paul's Catholic Church, extraordinary communion minister to the residents at the Getty Street Apartments and St. Michael's Hospital and Nursing Home.

Throughout her life Evelyn worked as a sales person at Silbernicks Store in Greenwald, Bushey Drug in Sauk Centre, Coast to Coast and Ace Hardware in Sauk Centre, and also was a receptionist in Dr. Ray Heiman's Optometric office in Sauk Centre. Evelyn enjoyed baking and cooking, reading, especially poetry, proverbs and novels, and group sing-alongs.

Survivors include her children, Judith (John) Hill of Indianapolis, Indiana, Lawrence (Judith) Jansen of Sauk Centre, Marilyn Eelkema of Maplewood, Joyce Slawson of Osseo, Wisconsin, and Robert (Linda) Jansen of Hastings; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Erma (Elmer) Kettler of Melrose; and brothers, Alphonse Petermeier of Richmond, Roman (Mathilda) Petermeier of Sauk Centre, and Edmund (Dorothy) Petermeier of Sauk Centre.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jansen on December 15, 1983; parents; son, James Jansen; grandson, Christopher Hill; sister, Florentine (Leonard) Schmiesing; and brother, Anthony (Ella) Petermeier.
