Evangeline M. "Vangie" Hartung, age 79 of Melrose died after a long battle with Parkinson's disease on Thursday, August 11, 2005 at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, August 15 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday evening.
Evangeline Hartung was born March 29, 1926 in Melrose, Minnesota to Henry and Margaret (Wiebolt) Klaphake. She was united in marriage to Frank Hartung on November 26, 1955 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Vangie was a homemaker all her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.
She is survived by her husband, Frank Hartung of Melrose; children, Margie Proell and her husband, Pat of Sauk Centre, Joan Jackson and her husband, Jerry of Melrose, Gary Fabeck of Melrose, Jane Montegani and her husband, Bruce of Blaine, Washington, Allan Hartung and his wife, Sue of Melrose, Don Hartung and his wife, Bertha of Melrose, Karen Kuebelbeck and her husband, Bryan of Melrose, Amy Boeckermann and her husband, Paul of Pine River and Dale Hartung and his wife, Rayna of Melrose; 21 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; twin brother, Ervin Klaphake and his wife, Virginia of Melrose and brother, Tony Klaphake and his wife, Alice of Melrose.
Vangie was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Nicholas Fabeck, Jr.; and sister, Winifred Maus.
Casket bearers will be Aaron Bangasser, Tom Hartung, Mike Fabeck, John Proell, Justin Hartung, Joshawa Hartung and Tim Gieske. Cross bearer will be Becky Oswskey. Honorary bearers will be Edna Worms, Edwina Pung, Millie Mueller, Viola Berscheid, Vera Ritter, Betty Petermeier, Leona Althaus, Mary Ann Primus, Marcella Frericks, Marlene Wessel, Bernice Welters, Donna Dufner, Carol Niehaus, Kitty Mueller, Jan Barth and Annie Hellermann.
