Eugene "Pitzel" Moening, age 64 of Melrose, died on Friday, August 8, 2003 at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose. Rev. Vincent Lieser will officiate with interment following in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home in Melrose.
Eugene Moening was born on January 26, 1939 in Melrose, Minnesota to Bernard and Frances (Althaus) Moening. He was a 1957 graduate of Melrose High School. On October 26, 1968 he was united in marriage to Karen Kortan at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. He owned and operated Gene Moening's Trucking, an independent milk hauler, and was contracted by the Nelson Creamery for 35 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Gene loved spending time with his family and granddaughter, neighbors and relatives. He had a great sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Moening of Melrose; mother, Frances Moening of Melrose; daughter, Melanie Moening and son, Brian Moening, both of Melrose; granddaughter, Courtney; brother, Jack (Alice) Moening of Melrose.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Moening and sister, Karen Moening.
Serving as casket bearers will be Dan and Rick Moening, Lisa Wensmann, Joey Loehr, Jerry Uhlenkamp and Duane Kemper. Randy Moening will serve as cross bearer and Stacy Hellermann will serve as scripture bearer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
