Eugene H. "Gene" Blomgren, age 76 of Sauk Centre, died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 26 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Little Sauk with Rev. Melissa Ehrhardt officiating. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Eugene Harold Blomgren was born January 12, 1940 in Howard County, Iowa to Harold and Sarah (Offen) Blomgren. He was united in marriage to Judith "Judy" Sylling on April 27, 1963 in Spring Grove, Minnesota. Gene worked at Crenlo Incorporated in Rochester for 36 years until his retirement. Gene and Judy purchased property on the north end of Sauk Lake where they moved permanently in 2002. Gene was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Little Sauk where he served two terms on the church council, National Wild Turkey Federation, and Ducks Unlimited. In his younger years Gene enjoyed fishing and bowling, and most recently loved playing cards and taking an occasional trip to the casino.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Blomgren of Sauk Centre; children, James (Brenda) Blomgren of Grand Meadow and Deanna Henderson (Kevin Schultz) of Waseca; three grandchildren, Jennifer Henderson, Laura (Daniel) Funk, and Steven Blomgren; and sister, Sharon (Wayne) Burnikel of Lime Springs, Iowa.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Sarah Blomgren.
Serving as honorary urn bearers will be his grandchildren, Jennifer Henderson, Laura Funk, and Steven Blomgren.
Due to allergies, memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
