Esther Weirens

Esther E. Weirens, age 87 of Sauk Centre passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Theis presiding. Interment will take place in St. Paul's Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota. Parish Prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. and a rosary will be said by the Christian Mothers and Catholic United Financial at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Esther Elizabeth Leukam was born August 11, 1928 in Meire Grove, Minnesota to Tony and Hilda (Lieser) Leukam. Esther went to country school until the 8th grade and then continued to help out her family on the farm. She married Leander Weirens on June 11, 1951 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Meire Grove. After their marriage the couple moved to Sauk Centre and began raising their family together. Esther volunteered at Holy Family School for 26 years. Esther enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, cooking, and growing flowers for her flower garden.

Survivors include her spouse, Leander Weirens of Sauk Centre; children, Joan (Steve) Dehn of St. Cloud, Dan (Annette) Weirens of St. Cloud, and Duane Weirens of Sauk Centre; sisters, Alice (Tony) Klaphake of Melrose, and Luella (Joe) Middendorf of Sauk Centre.

Esther was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother and sister, Ralph Leukam and Delma Gruber.

Serving as casket bearers will be Mark Leukam, Dale Leukam, Karl Klaphake, David Klaphake, Glen Middendorf, and Paul Middendorf. Serving as cross bearer will be Carol Reilly. Gift bearers will be Luella Middendorf and Alice Klaphake.
