Esther Walters

Esther Walters, age 90 of Sauk Centre, died peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at CentreCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Esther Koepplin was born April 19, 1924 in Elgin, North Dakota to Ludwig and Maria (Nicklous) Koepplin. On April 19, 1945 she married Ralph Walters at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre. She was a dedicated dairy farmer, lastly north of Sauk Centre, and retired in 1975. Esther enjoyed playing cards, quilting, cooking, and baking. She loved spending time with her friends and family especially her great-grandchildren. Esther was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she once served as bookkeeper and belonged to the Ladies Aid.

She is survived by her son, David (Mary) Walters of Sauk Centre; granddaughter, Stacey Lhotka of Alexandria; two great-grandchildren, Jameson and Jada McAdoo; brothers, Otto (Marlene) Koepplin of Elgin, North Dakota, Pete (Ruby) Koepplin of Elgin, North Dakota, and George (Florence) Koepplin of Dickinson, North Dakota; and sisters, Irene Miller of Mandan, North Dakota, Freda Yoder of Mills, Wyoming, Florence (Ervin) Fisher of Glen Uliin, North Dakota, Leona Nicklous of Elgin, North Dakota, Loretta (Vernon) Sprecher of New Leipzig, North Dakota, and Eleanor (Ervin) Bentz of Bismark, North Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Walters on July 20, 2013; her parents; and sisters, Olga Zimmerman, Adeline Ding, and Christine Schmidt.

Serving as casket bearers will be Clifford Jennissen, Mike Hoeschen, Tim Schleicher, Pete Koepplin, Otto Koepplin, Denny Pastian, and Allan Pastian.

Honorary Bearers will be Janet Jennissen, Dora Wiegers, Shirley Wiener, Dorothy Ripka, Ione Halverson, Andy Wiegers, Allie Hoeschen, Sandy Koffler, Ruby Koepplin, and Marlene Koepplin.
