Erwin F. "Erv" Massmann, age 88 of Sauk Centre, died Thursday, August 30, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 3 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating and Rev. Andrew Marthaler concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m.
Erwin Fritz Massmann was born July 30, 1924 in Villard, Minnesota to Fritz and Minnie (Quistorff) Massmann. He was raised on a farm near Little Sauk, Minnesota until 1947 when his family moved into Sauk Centre. Erv was united in marriage to Bernice Odegaard on October 2, 1951 at St. Alexius Church in West Union, Minnesota. He worked for Kranz Oil Company, Swift and Company, and various road construction companies. Erv then worked at Emblom Brothers until his retirement in 1984.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Erv enjoyed spending time with family, hunting, fishing, trapping, and especially gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Massmann of Sauk Centre; children, Diane (Vern) Athmann of Sauk Centre, Butch (Donna Neal) Massmann of Sauk Centre, and Donna (Eric) Carlson of Sauk Centre; grandchildren, Kari (Darin) Thompson, Kevin (Sarah) Athmann, Ashley (Derek Wetstein) Massmann, Austin Carlson, Brance Carlson, and Cailynn Carlson; great-grandchildren, Breanna Thompson, McKenna Thompson, Hailey Thompson, Tanner Massmann, Kylie Athmann, and Peyton Athmann; nephew, Gary (Bonnie) Anderson; and niece, Darlene Anderson.
Erwin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Vaneta Anderson; and brother-in-law Harold "Tom" Anderson.
Serving as casket bearers will be Butch Massmann, Vernon Athmann, Kevin Athmann, Eric Carlson, Brance Carlson, Austin Carlson, Darin Thompson, Derek Wetstein. Cross bearer will be Kari Thompson and scripture bearer will be Breanna Thompson.
