Ervin T. Kohorst, age 77 of Sauk Centre, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Rev. James Statz will officiate with interment following in Calvary Cemetery.
Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 5:15 p.m. followed by Knights of Columbus and Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Erv Kohorst was born August 26, 1929 in Albany, Minnesota to Clemens and Anna (Buerman) Kohorst. On January 2, 1951 he married Mona Adrian at St. Anthony Catholic Church in St. Anthony. The couple farmed near Holdingford until moving to Sauk Centre in 1969. There they purchased the Hamm's beer distributorship, which they owned and operated as Kohorst Beverage, adding Pabst in 1975. They sold the beer distributorship in 1982 and started Kohorst Trucking and then added Sauk Centre Truck Service in 1983. In 1985 they opened a NAPA store in Sauk Centre and in 1987 they opened a second store in Osakis. Erv sold the business in 1989 and semi-retired, as he continued to work part-time. For 17 years the couple spent the winter months in Arizona.Erv was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council, and Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Sauk Centre Lions Club, served on the board of Sauk Centre Opportunities, and was a former member and trustee of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holdingford.Erv enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time with friends, as well as watching his grandchildren in their activities.
Survivors include his wife, Mona Kohorst of Sauk Centre; two sons, Don (Loni) Kohorst and Bob (JoAnn) Kohorst, all of Sauk Centre; daughter-in-law, Linda Kohorst of Alexandria; seven grandchildren, Karla (Paul) Reyerson, Matt, Nathan, Ryan, Ted, Dylan, and Alyssa Kohorst; brothers and sisters, Mildred Kohorst of Albany, Robert Kohorst of Albany, Jeanette Nistler of Hamel, Elmer (Aurie) Kohorst of Albany, LeRoy (Joyce) Kohorst of Albany, Arnold (Susan) Kohorst of Hamel, Melvin (Diane) Kohorst of Minneapolis, LuAnn (Jeff) Smith of Brainerd, Marlene (Allan) Schwinghamer of St. Cloud, Darlene (Frank) Cooper of Baton Rouge, Louisianna, and Viola (Joe) Hagman of Boise, Idaho.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, James Kohorst on December 26, 1990.
Serving as casket bearers will be his grandchildren, Karla Reyerson, Matt, Nathan, Ryan, Ted, and Dylan Kohorst with Alyssa Kohorst as cross bearer. Serving as honorary bearers will be Herb and Alice Peters, Don and Eileen Fritzlar, Dennis Zimmerman, Paul and Pat Borgmann, Ralph and Mary Ann Braun, Jerome and Carol Pelkey, Jerry and Renee Beddow, Clarence and June Morgan, Bob and Shirley Wensman, and Melrose Golf Friends.
