Ervin J. "Erv" Kluver, age 86 of Sauk Centre, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 surrounded by his family at the Ecumen Bethany Community in Alexandria, Minnesota.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 28 at Zion Lutheran Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Marty Porter officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Sauk Centre with military honors by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church in Sauk Centre.
Ervin John Kluver was born August 6, 1930 in Raymond, Minnesota to John and Kate (Gerdes) Kluver. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Erv proudly served his country and was a recipient of a Purple Heart and three Bronze Service Stars. On June 7, 1953 he married Dorothy Ziegelmann at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Leaf Valley, Minnesota. Erv worked at various places before they moved to Sauk Centre. Once settled in Sauk Centre, he began hauling freight for Raymond Brothers and Hart Motors Express. He then got into the scrap metal business; owning and operating Erv's Iron and Metal. Along with hauling scrap iron, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing which included trips to Canada and Montana, and going to auctions and flea markets. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Erv was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, and lifetime member of the American Legion Post 67 and the Paul F Donart VFW Post 2853.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kluver of Sauk Centre; children, Greg (Nancy) Kluver of Sauk Centre, Steve (Susan) Kluver of Sauk Centre, Sharon (Dick) Ripka of Sauk Centre, Beverly (Thomas) Torstenson of Sauk Centre, Tammy (Brian) Grafsgaard of Minnetonka, and John Kluver of Sauk Centre; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Henry (Shirley) Kluver of Alexandria, Dorothy Arne of Minneapolis, Shirley Whitley of Alexandria, Harold (Rose) Kluver of Alexandria, Lois Engel of Alexandria, Sandy (Don) Kummer of Sauk Centre, and Linda (Charles) Border of Northfield.
Erv was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Ronald Hansen; and brother-in-law, Norman Arne.
Serving as urn bearer will be Greg Kluver.
