Ernest B. "Ernie" Uhlenkamp, age 83 of Sauk Centre, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at the Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 13 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa with Rev. Peter Kirchner officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Parish prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Ernest Bernard Uhlenkamp was born October 16, 1931 in Cando, North Dakota to Carl and Alice (Quackenbush) Uhlenkamp. On June 1, 1957 he married Bernice Kortan at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre. Ernie served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 67 in Sauk Centre. He farmed in Getty Township where he raised and milked dairy cattle and crop farmed until his retirement in 1999. After retirement, Ernie became the playground supervisor at Holy Family School in Sauk Centre for many years.
He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa, American Legion Post 67 in Sauk Centre, the Two Cylinder Club, and served as Getty Township Treasurer for 24 years. Ernie enjoyed restoring and driving his antique John Deere tractors and spending time with grandchildren.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Bernice Uhlenkamp of Sauk Centre; children, Tom (Jolene) Uhlenkamp of Villard, Gerard Uhlenkamp (special friend, Kristina Deppa) of Brooten and Mark (Sherrie) Uhlenkamp of Melrose; grandchildren, Brendan, Nicholas, Kaitlyn and James Uhlenkamp; brothers and sisters, Cora (Julian) Wiener of Sauk Centre, Don (Marlene) Uhlenkamp of Minneapolis, Lyle (Marilyn) Uhlenkamp of Sauk Centre, Alice Wanderscheid of Sauk Centre, Vern (Irene) Uhlenkamp of Sauk Centre, Roger (Cindy) Uhlenkamp of Villard, Bob (Lois) Uhlenkamp of Sauk Centre, and Pat (Jonie) Uhlenkamp of Sauk Centre.
Ernie was preceded in death by his mother, Alice (Quackenbush) Uhlenkamp, father, Carl Uhlenkamp; step-mother, Catherine Uhlenkamp; infant daughter, Marie Uhlenkamp; infant son, Charles Uhlenkamp; brother, David Uhlenkamp; and sister-in-law, Hazel Uhlenkamp.
Serving as casket bearers will be Tom Uhlenkamp, Gerard Uhlenkamp, Mark Uhlenkamp, Brendan Uhlenkamp, Randy Uhlenkamp, and Joe Loehr, Jr. The member of the Two Cylinder Club will act as honorary casketbearers. Cross bearer will be James Uhlenkamp. Kaitlyn Uhlenkamp will serve as Scripture bearer.
