Elsie M. Engel, age 88 of Sauk Centre, formerly of Grey Eagle, died Sunday, July 13, 2008 at St. Michael's Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 at the Grey Eagle United Methodist Church in Grey Eagle. Rev. Gary Taylor will officiate with interment following in Lakeview Cemetery in Grey Eagle.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elsie Marie Engel was born April 15, 1920 in Grey Eagle Township, Todd County, Minnesota to George and Addie (Adney) McClintick. On August 5, 1939 she married George J. Engel at the Grey Eagle United Methodist Church pastor's home. Elsie worked on the farm with her children while George worked on the Iron Range. In 1965, they purchased Engel's Caf? in Grey Eagle, which they owned and operated for ten years.Elsie was a lifetime member of the Grey Eagle United Methodist Church. Her favorite hobby was reading and she especially enjoyed romance novels or what her husband called "funny books." She also enjoyed fishing and driving. Many days she would just go out and drive. She also loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Clyde (Darlene) Engel of Melrose, Paul (Pam) Engel of Burtrum, and Mary Muellner of Burtrum; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Beulah Young of Grey Eagle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George on December 20, 1986; children, James and Lois; grandsons, Ricky Warner, Daniel Muellner, and Herb Muellner, Jr.; son-in-law Herb Muellner; parents; brothers, Bernard, Bob, and Stanley McClintick; and sister, Dorothy Montzka.
Serving as casket bearers will be Tom Roe, Randy Ahrendt, Jeff Tschida, Bill Engel, Jim Engel, and Paul Engel. Honorary bearers will be her grandchildren.
