Elmer J. "Bud" Winters, age 86 of Sauk Centre, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the CentraCare Health Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, Minnesota.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 30 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. Greg Paffel officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Elmer John Winters was born February 6, 1932 in Ashley Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to Henry and Alvina (Holdvogt) Winters. Bud resided nearly all his life in Sauk Centre. When he was 7 years old, he got polio and was a fighter and an overcomer in his years going forward. Bud married Alice Bieringer in 1958 and together they had seven children. In 1963 Bud started his own business called Flexible Pipe Tool Company and sold maintenance equipment to municipalities until 1992. Bud married Fran Molitor on October 12, 2006 in Glenwood, Minnesota. He enjoyed playing cards and dice, driving around, and visiting with people. He would go to the truck stop daily for coffee with his friends. He was also a big fan of the Minnesota Twins.
Bud was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Bishop Busch Council #4863 Knights of Columbus, Queen of Peace General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Jaycees.
Bud is survived by his wife, Fran Winters of Sauk Centre; children, Pam (Brent) Blair of North Mankato, Debi (Steve) Wiegman of Bemidji, Steven (Cathy) Winters of Oshkosh, WI, Mary (Steve) Meyer of Moorhead, Brenda (James) Gasser of Andover, Pat (Rhonda) Winters of Maryland, and Paul (Jennifer) Winters of Maryland; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one on the way; two step-children, Ron (Shirley) Molitor and Diane (Dave) Gustafson; six step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sister, Alice (Martin) Marthaler; and brothers, Arthur Winters and Robert Winters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Alvina Winters; and one infant great-grandson.
Serving as casket bearers, cross bearer, and scripture bearer will be Bud's grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Family School.
