Elizabeth L. "Betty" Spaeth, age 66 of Melrose, died after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vince Lieser officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call Friday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Friday evening.

Betty Spaeth was born July 26, 1939 in New Munich, Minnesota to Edward and Susan (Mayers) Olmscheid. She married Allen A. Spaeth on June 13, 1957 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. She was employed by Jennie-O Foods for 26 years. Betty enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino and taking care of her home and lawn. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

Survivors include her children, Mark Spaeth and his wife, Denise of Big Spring, Texas, Tom Spaeth of Melrose, Brenda Zeis and her husband, Jeff of Oak Grove, John Spaeth of Kasson, Cindy Lenarz and her husband, Todd of Milaca and Chris Spaeth of Little Canada; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Leo Olmscheid and his wife, Viola of New Munich, Jerome Olmscheid and his wife, Lorraine of Lake Henry, LeRoy Olmscheid and his wife, Phyllis of St. Cloud, Dorothy Rademacher and her husband, Ralph of New Munich and Dorien Revermann of New Munich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen on February 13, 1998; grandson, Lee Spaeth; sisters, Donna Mae Hiltner and Marian Van Drehle.

Serving as casket bearers will be Jason Spaeth, Eric Spaeth, Aaron Spaeth, Jared Spaeth, Justin Zeis and Adam Zeis. Serving as cross bearer will be Nicki Spaeth and scripture bearer will be Judy Spaeth. Honorary bearers will be the card group.
