Bette was born in Saint Cloud, Minnesota on February 15, 1929 to Oscar and Mary "Mamie" (Dermody) Lane, the 11th of 12 children. On April 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to David Paul Schneider from Adams, MN at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Saint Cloud. After leaving Saint Cloud they moved to Nekoma, ND; Hannaford, ND; Herreid, SD; Stewart, MN; Austin, MN; Alberta, MN; Coon Rapids, MN; LeRoy, MN; Welcome, MN; finally settling in the Sauk Centre area in 1973. Bette was deeply grateful for her Catholic faith and lived it out lovingly as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. As an active member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, she was known as a real "prayer warrior". She started every day by participating in the Holy Mass, and parish members could always count on seeing her sitting and praying in the far left front pew an hour before Mass started. She wanted everyone to know they were loved, and family and friends knew they could count on her intercession for their intentions, as she spent many hours a day in prayer. Next to the Holy Mass the devotions dearest to her heart were the Holy Rosary, the Divine Mercy Chaplet, lighting votive candles, having Masses offered for others, praying the Storm Prayer for Divine protection, and steadfast intercession for her children, grandchildren, parishioners, and priests. She will always be remembered in her community as an evangelizer, never ignoring an opportunity to witness for the Faith.
Bette is survived by her children, Theresa Schneider of Welcome, MN; Katherine (Edward) Green of Willmar, MN; David (Susan) Schneider of San Diego, CA; Joseph (Susan) Schneider of Baxter, MN; Rev. Todd Schneider of Morris, MN; Sam (Lisa) Schneider of Blythewood, South Carolina; Amy (Eugene) Poepping of Sauk Centre, MN; 27 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and brother, Patrick (Frances) Lane of Yuba, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Mary (Dermody) Lane; husband, David Schneider who passed on August 14, 2008 after 60 years of marriage; siblings, John, Raymond, Nora, John, Katherine (Lembke), Eugene, Helen (Hollencamp), Richard, Wesley, Mary (Sullivan); and the precious unborn members of her family.
