Elizabeth M. Marthaler, age 94 of Osakis, formerly of West Union, died peacefully Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Community Memorial Home in Osakis, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 27 at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. Concelebrants will be Rev. Tom Knoblach and Rev. Andrew Marthaler. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. followed by Christian Mothers at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.

Elizabeth Knoblach was born August 13, 1914 in Avon Township, Stearns County, Minnesota to George and Mary (Salzer) Knoblach. On November 9, 1938 she married Hermann J. Marthaler at St. Alexius Catholic Church in West Union. The couple farmed near West Union, retired in 1970, and moved to West Union. In 2003 she moved to Osakis and since January had resided at Community Memorial Home in Osakis.Elizabeth loved her flower gardens and enjoyed watching birds and quilting. She will be lovingly remembered for her sugar cookies.

She was a member of St. Alexius Catholic Church and St. Ann's Christian Mothers. Her family recipe for sausage has been used for the St. Alexius Sausage Supper each year.

Survivors include two sons, Alex (Darlene) Marthaler of Padua and Herb (Barbara) of Osakis; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Knoblach of Sauk Centre; sister, Marie (Harlan) Tenhoff of Osakis; sisters-in-law, Doni Knoblach of Bloomington and Mary Knoblach of Sartell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hermann Marthaler on June 5, 1997; son, Eugene Marthaler in 1983; brothers, Alois, Leo, Richard, and Edmund Knoblach

.Serving as casket bearers will be Glen, Harold, Howard, Kelly, Scott, and Keith Marthaler. Cross bearer will be Jason Marthaler.
