Elizabeth Allen

Elizabeth M. "Liz" Allen, age 97 of Wadena, formerly of Sauk Centre, died Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Fair Oaks Lodge in Wadena, Minnesota.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 29 at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre with Rev. James Statz officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Paul's cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church.

Elizabeth Marie Strauss was born December 8, 1914 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota to George and Antoinette (Jung) Strauss. She attended St. Paul Church Catholic School for eight years and graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1932. Elizabeth received her Limited Teaching Certificate and in 1943, graduated from St. Cloud Teachers College earning her Bachelor of Science degree. She taught in International Falls for six years, St. Paul for 12 years, and eventually retired from the Sauk Centre Public Schools in 1977 after 11 years of teaching second grade.

She was united in marriage to Thomas Allen on September 16, 1961 at St. Paul's Cathedral in St. Paul. Thomas passed away on May 28, 1965. Elizabeth was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Sauk Centre, Christian Mothers, and the Teachers Retirement Association. She enjoyed traveling, reading, listening to the Catholic channel on television, and also enjoyed the music and activities program at the lodge.

Survivors include her special friends, JoAnn White of Sebeka, and Bill White of Sebeka; special cousins, Wells and Mary Jo Smith of Wichita, Kansas, MerryChris and Bill January of Wichita, Kansas, Sandy and Chris Elliott of Wichita, Kansas, and Curt Smith of Wichita, Kansas.

Liz was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Allen; and parents.

Serving as urn bearer will be Gary Telega.
