Eleanor E. Schwieters, age 92, of Melrose, died Saturday, February 22, 2014 at the CentraCare Pine Haven in Melrose, Minnesota.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 26 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Marvin Enneking officiating and Rev. Ken Thielman concelebrating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Christian Mothers and Women's Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 6 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Eleanor Elizabeth Walz was born May 7, 1921 in Elrosa, Minnesota to Carl and Gertrude (Woeste) Walz. She was united in marriage to Norbert Schwieters on October 22, 1940 at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. The couple farmed near Padua for 41 years; retiring in 1984. Since then, Eleanor has resided in Melrose. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers, and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include her children, Jan Schwieters Baltes of Melrose, Joan (Allen) Otterness of St. Cloud, Robert (Carol) Schwieters of Rosemount, Linda (Harold) Borgmann of Sauk Centre, Diane (Scott) Jacobson of Brooten, and Mary Jane (Tom) Kowal of St. Cloud; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, 18 step-great-grandchildren, and two great-great- step-grandchildren; sisters, Marion (Henry) Evens of Sauk Centre and Roni Ebensteiner of Chaska; brother, Melvin (Arlene) Walz of Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Erma Walz of Melrose and Olivia Schwieters of Melrose.

Eleanor was in preceded in death by her husband, Norbert Schwieters on May 2, 1998; parents, Carl and Gertrude Walz; step-mother, Ann Walz; brothers, Ervin, Norbert, and Virgil Walz; sister, Donna Spaeth; sisters-in-law, Ione and Kathleen Walz; brothers-in-law, Jack Ebensteiner and LeRoy Spaeth.
